Photomaly is PSX-style first-person horror game where you take over the photography studio your father left behind. Process orders from strange customers, decorate your studio and keep an eye out for things that don’t seem quite right... Photography isn’t always as simple as pressing the shutter. Find the perfect angle, develop film under the right conditions, prepare the final photos, and make sure they end up in the right hands.

Greet and serve the local community. Each customer comes with their own unique requests, quirks, and stories. Get to know your patrons and fulfil their orders. Just make sure not to pry too deep… When business is slow, customise and decorate your workspace. Hang your favourite prints on the wall or create the perfect wallpaper for your PC. Use your profits to unlock and purchase studio upgrades – better equipment, better setups, better results. Developing films pays the bills, but something isn’t quite right. With every photo taken, you get a little bit closer to [REDACTED].

I was immediately intrigued by this game’s concept, especially after seeing clips of it. I played the demo, waited patiently for the full release, and now I’m waiting (almost patiently)...

Yes, the game really does look like that. No, it’s not a graphical error.
I was immediately intrigued by this game’s concept, especially after seeing clips of it. I played the demo, waited patiently for the full release, and now I’m waiting (almost patiently) for Endless Mode. The game was much shorter than I hoped, and some of the lore can be a little hard to follow, but the gameplay is right up my alley.
It ran well overall. I encountered a few bugs, but nothing game-breaking. I did have to restart once after getting clipped into the floor with no way out, but thankfully, the game saves pretty frequently, so I didn’t lose much progress.
The graphics are... meh. I understand why the dev went with this style, but it’s so muddy and fuzzy that I genuinely thought something was wrong with my PC. No matter what settings I changed, it still looked funny. Unfortunately, this also made some of the text difficult to read.
I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys subtle horror. There are only a few actual in-your-face jump scares, with most of the horror coming from the subtle anomaly stuff. I had a lot of fun with this game and can’t wait for the next update, Endless Mode is gonna be fun.
